Reverse Snow Angel: Do This Instead of Push Ups

Reverse Snow Angel: Do This Instead of Push Ups

Name a bodyweight upper body exercise.
Did you say push ups?
You said push ups.
Push ups without a doubt have the best PR rep out of all bodyweight exercises.
But here’s the problem.
If you’re constantly doing push ups, you’re constantly strengthening and tightening your chest.
For most people who sit all day, these muscles are *already* tight and overactive, leading to hunched shoulders and poor posture.
It’s actually the upper back – not the chest — that is weak on most people and needs work.
It’s the upper back that needs to be strengthened, so that it effectively pulls the shoulders back and makes you stand tall with confidence – the way you would naturally if you weren’t sitting and/or hunched over a computer.
So, let’s get clear. Why should you *care* about posture?
Two reasons:
1) Posture makes you charismatic.
Posture plays such a significant role in physical attractiveness and confidence. There are studies showing how changes in posture alone can change our hormones and thereby our mood.
2) Posture makes you feel better.
We have this idea that it takes effort to stand up straight, but the truth is precisely the opposite. If you’re unable to stand tall and in alignment, your muscles have to overcompensate for the postural problems you possess.
The truth is that poor posture leads to muscular tightness and fatigue.
So if you’re always feeling sore and/or tired — fixing your posture will undoubtedly at least help your symptoms, if not completely solve them.
With that in mind, allow me to introduce you today’s upper body workout, with a specific focus on the upper back and posture:
